What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Email Subscribe Form
If you signup for the email list using the provided forms, you will be sharing your email with me and opting in to receiving emails from me. While the emails that are sent are self-hosted using CiviCRM for WordPress, your email will initially be stored on a database hosted by MailChimp. Your email will then be transferred over to our self-hosted database before you receive mailings. Please be aware that the opt-in confirmation email you receive will come from MailChimp.
Embedded content from other websites
Pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to collect information about visitors. This provides us with information such as what metro region users come from, what website referred them to us, and what type of technology they are viewing this website on.
Purchasing and User Accounts
We you make a purchase on this website, we collect your name, email, and billing address. Your payment information is not stored on this website. Upon making a purchase, a user account is created using your email address as the login. Your password is stored on our website in an encrypted format. Please be aware that purchases made through third parties that are linked from this website, such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble, are not under our control and we do not have access to your purchase information. It may be appropriate at this time to share that WE STILL CAN'T ACCESS OUR AMAZON ACCOUNT BECAUSE THEIR SECURITY FEATURES DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY!
Who we share your data with
We do not share your data with anyone directly, however, we do, from time to time, implement code such as Facebook Pixels, Snap Pixels and Reddit Pixels which notify these platforms that you've visited our website (if you are logged into their accounts). This is generally done to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns, though, to be fair, we basically have abandoned this as we just prefer to focus on publishing cool shit rather than worrying about tracking people's visits to the site. That being said, we may use these tools (or others like them) and don't want to have to update this privacy policy every time we experiment with some new technology, so be forewarned... we're just tinkerers, not malicious monsters.
How long we retain your data
Any data retained is likely retained in perpetuity unless otherwise stated, though, realistically, shit happens and we lose things. There... it's been stated in writing. Me lose me shit constantly, ok?
What rights you have over your data
You can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Sorry that there isn't anything silly to add to this one.
Other concerns related to your privacy
From time to time, James Flannery, dba J.F. Web Development, may contract with third-party developers to perform work on websites hosted on the same server as jim-flannery.com. J.F. Web Development may even need help in setting up the email system on that server (maybe you can help him figure out how to get bounce processing to work with CiviCRM?). These contractors will have access to the server and you should know that. That being said, if we trust them, why wouldn’t you?
