Earlier this year, a bill was submitted to Connecticut’s Public Health Committee to end involuntary electroshock in the state of Connecticut. The bill, S.B. 1070, remains untouched.
The next stage the bill must advance to is Public Testimony, however, that will require two members of the Committee stepping forward to make it happen. Just two of the thirty-two members are needed… and that’s why I need you.
At stoptheshockct.org, there is a phone campaign setup that invites you to join in making the unthinkable happen: ending involuntary electroshock in my home state of Connecticut.
Calling thirty-two people is a lot to ask… so, I’ve broken up the list of committee members into groups. Your group is determined by the first letter of your last name. All that I ask is that you make four phone calls (of course, you’re welcome to make more!).
As far as I know, there is not a single U.S. state where we are safe from involuntary electroshock. If we can make this happen in Connecticut, we might just set a precedent that can spread across the country and beyond.
Visit stoptheshockct.org for the list of representatives with their contact information. We can do this.
