Jim Flannery Celebrates Mad Pride Day with One Sunny Day
New EP Scheduled for July 14 Release
(Glastonbury, Conn.) On July 14th, FLANTASCIENCE CORP is proud announce the release of One Sunny Day, a new EP featuring Connecticut artist, Jim Flannery.
Born and raised in Wethersfield, Connecticut, Jim Flannery graduated from Boston University with a biomedical engineering degree. After launching a biotech company with a classmate, Jim ventured across country to California and got involved in laboratory robotics and the LED lighting industry.
Along the way, Jim had multiple run-ins with the U.S. mental health system, driving a desire to unleash his suppressed voice and creativity. Always defiant of the social norms society demands, he first expressed himself through stand-up comedy. Jim also thrust himself into activism, aligning himself with MindFreedom International, a grassroots human rights organization of psychiatric survivors who advocate against the use of force in the mental health system, and through his establishment of the Peer Unschooling Network, a social learning community for young self-directed learners.
The growing inner conflict between Jim’s altruistic activism and sinister sense of humor came to a crossroad during the Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in him exploring hip-hop as an alternative medium to share his feelings.
One Sunny Day is a four song EP which rides an emotional wave that grows with anger, crashes to despair, witnesses the emergence of hope, and blossoms into a pursuit of joy that leaves you feeling as if you want to dance like nobody is watching.
What Is Genocide? – The first cut is an intense rap-rock anthem that challenges some of the nation’s most oppressing mental health laws. Though those without the lived experience of being traumatized by psychiatry might find it chilling, anyone who has been on the sharp end of an uninvited needle will certainly be able to relate. You might think this song was born in Detroit at a concert where Eminem meets Kid Rock.
Wellness Check – Dark with an eerie vibe, the lyrics tell the story of a struggling individual in need of support but who is horrified of becoming a victim of a system that claims to help them. While the intentions of said systems may be good, the laws defining these systems can cause the opposite outcome of their intention.
Earth Phoenix – Inspired during Covid, this track reveals a unique perspective of hope for a better future that arrives out of the isolation and loneliness we all experienced. Life during Covid created a lot of emotions like fear, courage, and desperation; and, while each of us may have experienced it differently from one another, the pandemic nonetheless created a lot of controversy surrounding people’s questioning of authority. Unexpectedly, the song does not express a political bias, it instead speaks from the perspective of trying to understand the perspectives that surround them.
You Should Dance (feat. Gloria Ramos) – With a driving bass groove and playful off-the-wall lyrics, this song inspires everyone to get up and dance like nobody’s watching or judging. Written to introduce people to the world of ecstatic dance, this song breaks all the genre norms of hip-hop.
So put on your headphones and take a journey on the road to One Sunny Day; a great EP that’s short enough to stream on your commute to work.
